Gold

Originally written on the G4, reworked on the BlackBook.

Do you remember the way we were when everything changed?
We were as high as the weather was cold
And in the air we were breathing was the essence of fate
Now how strange we would feel without

I’d been waiting in vein for years
Expecting to change
Nothing’s different now that I’m older
Always needing repairs
Tossing books down the stairs
I’m still trying to figure it out

Look at me out there alone in the cold
Look at me out trying to lighten my load
Look at me always so far from my home
When you look at me everything turns into gold

So after hundreds of days
We’ve loved in hundreds of ways
There’s a feeling that never gets old
I’m collecting the rain today
In cups with your name
I’ll save them till the rain turns to snow

Look at me out there alone in the cold
Look at me out trying to lighten my load
Look at me always so far from my home
When you look at me everything turns into gold
